Candidate Bio
I am running for Library Trustee because:
Having an inviting library and staff who offer the best selection of materials and services is a major factor in making La Grange a highly sought after community and a wonderful place to live and raise a family. My enthusiasm for the library as a community hub– combined with my background in librarianship, grass roots organizing, journalism, and community involvement will all help me excel on the La Grange Public Library Board of Trustees. I will work diligently to put community first and make the La Grange Public Library a priority.
Community Service:
I served on the City of Elmhurst Senior Citizens Commission appointed by the mayor. I have also served as a church Moderator (Board Chair). Over the years, I have served my community through various volunteer activities with groups including the Nature Conservancy, Sierra Club, and Freedom To Read Foundation (before my current role as a consultant with the organization), and I actively participated in walks and runs for a number of organizations including DuPage PADS and Wellness House (an organization that supports people living through cancer and their families). I currently serve as a volunteer music leader for “Messy Church” at First Congregational Church La Grange and as a volunteer Pre-School Librarian for Grace Lutheran Church. I participate in local parent groups, a new start-up comedy troupe here in La Grange, and with various music groups.
Professional Experience:
I earned a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University. I have15 years of experience working for public libraries in programming, outreach, assistive technology, and reference. In my current role as a consultant, I work with the Freedom to Read Foundation creating online education opportunities for library staff, masters-level students, and trustees, and manage the organization’s social media presence.
La Grange Resident:
7 years, married with two sons, ages 3 (Barnsdale, pre-school) and 5 (Cossitt Kindergarten and Methodist Enrichment Program).
